Akademi Bomba Dan Penyelamat Malaysia Wilayah Sarawak Conducts Successful Technical Rope Rescue Simulation

Kuching, Sarawak – May 29, 2025 – The Akademi Bomba Dan Penyelamat Malaysia Wilayah Sarawak (Fire and Rescue Academy of Malaysia, Sarawak Region) – ABPM successfully conducted a realistic simulation as part of their Technical Rope Rescue Course. The exercise, held on May 29, 2025, focused on Tower Rescue techniques and provided invaluable hands-on experience for participating firefighters.

The simulation involved a challenging scenario where an actual weight manikin (RUTH LEE manikin) was suspended mid-way up a tower structure. Firefighters were tasked with safely reaching the manikin, securing it within a stretcher, and utilizing ropes and their rescue kit bags to lower the “casualty” safely to the ground.

This practical exercise allowed trainees to apply the theoretical knowledge and skills learned during the Technical Rope Rescue Course in a controlled yet demanding environment. Key aspects of the simulation included:

Assessment of the situation: Evaluating the stability of the tower and the position of the manikin.
Anchor system setup: Establishing secure and reliable anchor points for the rope rescue system.
Ascending techniques: Safely and efficiently ascending the tower to reach the manikin.
Patient packaging: Properly securing the manikin within the stretcher to prevent further injury during the descent.
Lowering system operation: Utilizing ropes and specialized equipment from the rescue kit bag to smoothly and safely lower the stretcher to the ground.
Teamwork and communication: Coordinating effectively as a team to ensure a successful and safe rescue operation.

The use of an actual weight manikin added a realistic element to the simulation, allowing firefighters to experience the physical demands of such a rescue. The exercise underscored the critical importance of proficiency in rope handling, knot tying, equipment operation, and teamwork in technical rope rescue scenarios.

This successful simulation highlights the commitment of Akademi Bomba Dan Penyelamat Malaysia Wilayah Sarawak to providing high-quality training that prepares firefighters for the complexities of technical rope rescue operations, ultimately enhancing their ability to serve and protect the community.
