On April 30th, 2025, a life-saving event unfolded at Kuching International Airport that reminds us all of the power of immediate action and proper emergency equipment. A 55-year-old gentleman from Sibu collapsed suddenly at the domestic arrival hall at approximately 11:30 AM. Thankfully, a courageous young woman nearby responded without hesitation, performing continuous CPR for 30 minutes until professional help arrived.
Crucially, the airport’s AED (Automated External Defibrillator) was applied during this emergency. The AED delivered two shocks, successfully terminating the patient’s pulseless ventricular fibrillation and restoring his heart rhythm. He was then transported to Sarawak General Hospital and subsequently to Timberland Medical Centre, where emergency coronary procedures confirmed severe blockages. Thanks to the early intervention and effective use of the AED, the patient has regained full consciousness and is on his way to recovery, with no neurological damage.
This real-life incident is a testament to the vital importance of:
- Immediate bystander CPR
- Ready access to reliable AEDs like the Nihon Kohden AED-3100
- Public awareness and preparedness for cardiac emergencies
The patient’s family is now seeking to find and thank the young woman who selflessly stepped in to save a life. If you have any information, please contact Madam Ngu at +60 13-804 6882.
At Tecsen Technologies, we are deeply committed to promoting heart safety in public spaces and ensuring that AEDs are available and accessible whenever and wherever they are needed. Stories like this reinforce our mission — because every second counts when it comes to sudden cardiac arrest.
